BEIJING—January 28, 2009—Red Bend Software, the market leader in Mobile Software Management (MSM), today announced that SIMCom Wireless Solutions (Shanghai), a world-leading supplier in high-quality wireless modules, has licensed Red Bend’s vCurrent® Mobile firmware over-the-air (FOTA) software for use in its machine-to-machine (M2M) product portfolio. SIMCom is the third largest cellular module supplier in the world.
The multi-billion dollar M2M marketplace is expected to ship 95 million modules in 2013, according to market research firm ABI Research. Speaking at M2M United 2008, ABI Research’s Senior Analyst Sam Lucero recognized the growing importance of FOTA for the M2M market. “For M2M, the benefits are operational efficiency and cost reduction. With M2M modules growing in complexity, FOTA enables manufacturers to perform software improvements over the air, without needing to send a field technician on site.”

The licensing agreement between Red Bend and SIMCom provides seamless management of mobile devices and M2M modules. vCurrent Mobile provides a cost-effective, fast and reliable method of wirelessly reflashing the firmware on mobile devices to ensure that software is up-to-date with the latest enhancements and features. vCurrent Mobile will add new capabilities to SIMCom’s M2M products, including eliminating manual field software updates, enabling cost-efficient remote application maintenance and improving the reliability and lifespan of M2M-enabled products. SIMCom’s wireless modules are deployed in a wide range of consumptive and industrial products, including wireless local loop (WLL), transport application, remote control, security device, industry application, wireless POS, mobile computing and wireless access product solutions.
