Ovum sees Red Bend overtake Bitfone in MDM clients shipped
By Rik Turner Red Bend Software has overtaken HP's Bitfone division as the leading provider of mobile device management (MDM) client software for firmware over the air (FOTA) updates based on the OMA DM standard, according to research from analyst firm Ovum. In Ovum's second quarterly "Support for Device Management in Handsets" report, relating to figures for the second quarter of 2007, the analyst house, which is part of Datamonitor, found that Red Bend was responsible for 49% of all the FOTA clients shipped on phones during the three-month period, whereas HP's Bitfone client made up 33%, InnoPath 15% and other vendors' products, 3%. This compared to HP's dominance in the first quarter of the year, with 50%, ahead of Red Bend's 35% and InnoPath's 14%.
